Hospital Discharge Transportation: Getting Home Safely After Surgery

Sometimes the hardest part of a hospital stay is figuring out how to get home safely after discharge.

Many patients are released from the hospital but are unable to safely ride in a regular car. This may be due to weakness, limited mobility, recent surgery, or the need to remain in a wheelchair or lying down during the trip.

Wheelchair and stretcher transportation can help make that transition home safer and more comfortable. Our team assists patients leaving the hospital and helps transport them directly to their home, rehabilitation center, or other care location.

Skyline Transport provides wheelchair and stretcher transportation throughout Hillsborough County and Pinellas County in Florida and works with families, hospitals, and care teams to help coordinate safe hospital discharges.

If you are hoping to use insurance for transportation, you will need to contact your insurance carrier first to verify whether your plan includes a non-emergency medical transportation benefit. If the benefit is available, the insurance provider will give instructions on how the transportation should be scheduled.

If insurance does not cover the trip, private pay transportation may still be available.

If you have questions, you may call our team at 800-515-8028 Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

You may also complete the Request for Quote form online and a member of our team will review the information and follow up regarding availability.
