How to Schedule Your Covered Medical Ride in Florida

One of the most common questions we get is a simple one: how do I actually book my ride? If your medical transportation is covered by Medicaid or a Medicare Advantage plan, the process works a little differently than calling a taxi, so here is how it goes.

Start by verifying your benefit

Before you can schedule anything, confirm that your plan actually includes non-emergency medical transportation. Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask if you have an NEMT benefit. If you do, your plan will refer you to the company they use to schedule and manage trips, which is your transportation broker. Everything else flows from there.

No benefit? Private pay is an option

If member services tells you your plan does not include NEMT, you still have a way to get where you need to go. You can pay privately for your trip. Request a quote on our website or call us directly and we will help you set it up. Our team is available by phone 8am to 5pm, Monday through Saturday, at 813-330-3200 or 800-515-8028. Our transportation service runs 6am to 6pm, Monday through Saturday.

Then work with your broker, not the provider

In Florida, covered trips are scheduled through your transportation broker, not directly with the transportation company. Your broker depends on your plan. Common ones in our area are Alivi Health, MTM, and Modivcare. When you are ready to book, you call your broker, and they assign your trip to a provider in their network.

Book as early as you can

Most brokers ask that you schedule routine trips at least two to three business days in advance. Booking early gives the broker time to assign your trip and gives providers time to fit you into the schedule. If you have standing appointments like dialysis or regular therapy, ask your broker about setting up recurring trips so you do not have to call every single time.

Have your information ready

To make the call go smoothly, keep these handy:

  • Your insurance or member ID

  • The date and time of your appointment

  • The full address of your pickup and drop-off locations

  • Whether you need ambulatory, wheelchair, or stretcher transport

  • Any special needs, such as a companion riding with you

Want Skyline specifically? Here is how

If your plan is managed by Alivi Health, Skyline is in network and you can request us as your preferred provider. One important detail: in the Alivi system we are registered as NDI Health Services, so that is the name to give when you make the request. Once we are set as your preferred provider, your trip request comes to us first before it goes out to the other providers in the system. If our schedule can accommodate it, we will take it.
