Does Skyline Transport Take Insurance? Coverage and Payment Options Explained

It is one of the first questions we get on the phone, and it deserves a straight answer instead of a "call for details" runaround. So here it is: yes, many of our riders have their trips covered through their health plan, and here is exactly how that works.

The Short Answer

Skyline Transport works with health plan transportation programs, accepts private pay, and partners directly with healthcare facilities. Whether your specific ride is covered depends on your insurance plan, because NEMT coverage does not work the way most people expect. Two minutes of reading below will save you a phone call, or at least make the phone call faster.

How NEMT Insurance Coverage Actually Works

Here is the part that surprises most families: health plans almost never pay transportation companies directly the way they pay a doctor's office. Instead, plans that include a transportation benefit contract with a transportation broker, a company that manages ride requests and assigns them to approved local providers like us.

That means the path to a covered ride usually looks like this:

  1. Your health plan includes an NEMT benefit

  2. The plan's transportation broker handles the booking

  3. The broker assigns the trip to an in-network provider

  4. The provider, hopefully us, shows up and takes you to your appointment

The key step is number two. For a covered trip, the ride is typically arranged through your plan's transportation line, not by calling the transport company directly.

Which Plans Cover Rides With Skyline Transport

Medicaid managed care plans

Florida Medicaid includes non-emergency transportation to covered medical appointments, managed through each plan's contracted broker. Skyline Transport (NDI Health Services LLC) is an in-network provider with Alivi Health, which manages transportation for several Florida health plans. Alivi represents your insurance carrier for the whole process: they confirm your eligibility, handle any authorizations or documentation your plan requires for the trip level, and assign the ride to an in-network provider. You never have to sort out paperwork with the transportation company.

Medicare Advantage plans

Many Medicare Advantage plans in the Tampa Bay area now include a transportation benefit, often a set number of one-way trips per year to medical appointments. These also run through brokers. Check your plan's Evidence of Coverage or call the member services number on your card and ask two questions: does my plan include transportation, and who is the transportation broker?

Original Medicare

Traditional Medicare (Parts A and B) generally does not cover non-emergency transportation. If you have Original Medicare without a supplement that adds transport, your ride would be private pay.

We are actively expanding our broker network, so if your plan's broker is not listed here, call us anyway. The answer changes as we add partnerships.

No Coverage? Private Pay Is Simpler Than You Think

Plenty of our riders pay directly: families booking for a parent, riders whose plan benefit is exhausted for the year, or people who simply want to choose their own provider and schedule without going through a broker.

Private pay with us means a clear quote before the trip based on distance and service type, no surge pricing, and no membership fees. We accept credit, debit, and CareCredit. Wheelchair, stretcher, stair chair, and post-procedure transport are all available private pay across Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties.

Booking Through a Facility

Hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, dialysis centers, and clinics also arrange and pay for trips directly with us for their patients, especially discharges. If a facility is coordinating your ride, they handle payment and you handle nothing.

How to Book a Covered Ride: Start Here

If you are not sure who manages your plan's transportation, start with the member services number on the back of your insurance card. Ask two things: does my plan include non-emergency medical transportation, and who schedules and manages the trips? Your carrier will confirm the benefit on your policy and refer you to the right booking line.

If you already know Alivi Health manages your plan's transportation, you can call Alivi's member line directly at 888-863-0248 to schedule your trip.

Either way, one booking habit makes everything smoother: schedule insurance trips 2 to 3 days before your appointment. Advance notice gives the broker time to confirm everything with your plan and gives your preferred provider the best chance of being available for your trip.

How to Make Skyline Transport Your Preferred Provider

Here is something most riders never learn: with Alivi, you can choose which transportation company gets your trips first.

Call Alivi and ask to have NDI Health Services listed as your preferred provider. That is Skyline Transport's legal company name, and it is the name in Alivi's system, so be sure to use it. This is a one-time request. Once it is on your profile, your future trips route to us first automatically.

Two honest notes about what preferred status means:

  • It is first right of refusal, not a guarantee. If our schedule is full or the notice is too short, we may not be able to accept a trip. Booking 2 to 3 days ahead is the best way to make sure we can say yes.

  • Your ride is never at risk. If we cannot take a trip, Alivi automatically reassigns it to another in-network provider. You do not have to rebook or do anything at all. Choosing a preferred provider costs you nothing and can only work in your favor.

What Happens After You Book

Once Alivi assigns a trip to us, we call you directly the day before to confirm your pickup. You will hear from our local team, not a call center. Alivi also offers an app where you can check your trip status and see which provider is assigned, so you always know who is coming. If the assigned provider shows as NDI Health Services, that is us.

Or skip the homework entirely and call us at 813-330-3200 or 800-515-8028. Tell us your plan name and we will tell you honestly whether there is a covered path to ride with us, and what private pay would cost if not.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Skyline Transport accept Medicaid? Florida Medicaid transportation runs through plan-contracted brokers rather than direct billing. We are in-network with Alivi Health, which manages transportation for multiple Florida plans. Call us with your plan name and we will confirm whether your trips can be routed to us.

Does Skyline Transport take Medicare? Traditional Medicare generally does not cover non-emergency transportation. Many Medicare Advantage plans do, through their transportation broker.

Can I request Skyline Transport by name through my insurance? Yes. If Alivi Health manages your plan's transportation, call Alivi and ask to have NDI Health Services, Skyline Transport's legal name, listed as your preferred provider. It is a one-time request, and your future trips will route to us first when our schedule allows.

What if Skyline Transport cannot take my trip? Alivi automatically reassigns the trip to another in-network provider, so your ride is never at risk. Booking 2 to 3 days before your appointment gives us the best chance of being available.

Do I need a doctor's order or authorization for a covered trip? If your plan requires one, Alivi handles it. As your plan's transportation manager, Alivi confirms eligibility and gathers whatever your insurance carrier needs for the trip level. Just tell them your appointment details and mobility needs when you book.

How much is a ride if I pay out of pocket? Pricing depends on distance, service type, and whether the trip is one way or round trip. Call for a quote before you book. The price we quote is the price you pay.

Do you take credit cards? Yes. Private pay trips can be paid by credit card, debit card, or CareCredit.
