How does wheelchair transportation work in St. Petersburg?

If you or a loved one uses a wheelchair, getting to appointments, therapy, or even family events doesn’t have to be stressful. What to Expect During a Wheelchair Transport


  1. Scheduling Your Ride – If your trip is covered by insurance, you’ll need to contact your insurance company first to confirm your transportation benefit and have the ride scheduled through their transportation provider. For private-pay trips, you can call Skyline Transport directly at 800-515-8028 or submit a request through our online quote form. If a companion will be traveling with you, please mention this at the time of reservation so we can make the proper accommodations.


  2. Pickup and Assistance – On the day of transport, our driver will arrive at your door, assist you safely to the vehicle, and secure your wheelchair. Please have all personal items ready and pathways clear before pickup to ensure the driver can keep you on schedule and avoid delays for other passengers.


  3. Transportation – Our vehicles are professionally converted to allow passengers to remain safely in their wheelchair throughout the ride — no transfers required. Each vehicle is equipped with a hydraulic lift and securement system to ensure a safe, comfortable experience.


  4. Drop-Off and Support – Upon arrival, our driver will assist you inside and ensure a smooth and safe transition to your destination before completing the trip.


Will-Call Pickups


For return trips after your appointment, Skyline Transport provides will-call pickups. Once your appointment is complete, please call our dispatch team to let them know you’re ready for pickup.


Our drivers do not wait at the appointment location during your visit. After you call, dispatch will assign the closest available driver to return for you.


We ask that you only call when you are fully ready for pickup—not in advance—as drivers cannot wait on-site while appointments are still in progress. While we can’t guarantee immediate pickup, we make every effort to minimize wait times and get you back safely and promptly.
